Parents, make sure that you are up to date with the upcoming changes to all food and drink offered in schools.
What is happening?
Schools in Scotland have a legal duty to provide food and drink in schools which meets strict nutritional standards. The regulations help ensure that young people get the balance of nutrients they need to develop healthily.
*For this reason, food and drink in schools that your children are offered will change.*
The changes include:
+ Greater access to more fruit and vegetables every day
+ Limitations on red meat that is offered
+ Reduction in the amount of sugar offered
When is this happening?
By Autumn 2020
What can you do, as parents, to support this change?
It is particularly important that parents understand the reasoning behind the changes so that they can be confident that they are designed to support the health and wellbeing of your children and young people particularly where they result in more popular items being reduced or removed.
